There are sadistic scientists who hurry to hunt down errors instead of establishing the truth.
-Marie Curie
Marie Curie's Banquet Speech (in English):
Thank you to the Academy of Sciences for the great honor it did me . First, this honor not only addresses the point to me. For many years , Pierre Curie and I spent all our days working on our common discovery of radium and polonium . So I think interpreted in its true sense thinking of the Academy , saying that the Nobel Prize has awarded me that it is also a tribute to Pierre Curie .
Let me also express the joy I feel when thinking about radioactivity . The discovery of radioactive phenomena dates fifteen years. Radioactivity is a very young science. This is a child I was born and I helped with all my strength, to raise. The child grew, it became beautiful. Radioactivity is a new science which has very close relations with the physics and chemistry but which is nevertheless quite distinct . Today we have institutions and laboratories for radioactivity ; many scientists are dedicated to the study of radio -active phenomena. The development was admirable ; but we could have hoped either more beautiful encouragement than that the young science was the subject from the Academy of Sciences of Sweden awarded three Nobel prize, a physical , two chemistry, the four researchers Henri Becquerel , Pierre Curie , Marie Curie and E. Rutherford.
